Dr. Gonzalez has been involved in ongoing work with counseling in Catholic schools since 1999, which led to the focus of her research and doctoral dissertation: A Program Guide for the Delivery of Counseling & Psychological Services in Catholic Schools ~ A Solution-Focused Approach. Seeing a need in Catholic schools, she created the position and served as the first Director of Counseling and Student Services for the Archdiocese of San Antonio Department of Catholic Schools. She is currently Senior Director of the Office of Counseling & Student Services at Incarnate Word High School. Dr. Gonzalez continues working to increase the awareness of the vital role of counselors in schools and is passionate about ensuring that appropriate Catholic counseling services are available for all students. She is also a clinical team member of Road Runner Research (a neurology practice), and works with parishes in the San Antonio Archdiocese and here at Our Lady of Wisdom University Parish in the Diocese of Austin to expand mental health ministry.

Dr. Gonzalez and her husband of 30 years, William, were both born and raised in San Antonio and attended Catholic school from first through twelfth grade. After their four children also graduated from Catholic schools, they have continued to be active in their parish and strong supporters of Catholic education and counseling services that are authentically Catholic.

At OLOW, Dr. Gonzalez provides individual counseling services for students on Fridays.
