Meet Barry…

Barry Horn, M.Ed., LPC Associate

Site Supervisor: Dr. Chris Stravitsch, DMin, LPC-S, LMFT-S

Barry is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate with an M.Ed. in Counseling and Development: Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling from Lamar University, and a B.A. in Sociology from Texas Tech University. Since 2015 he has worked in a community college setting serving diverse and underrepresented populations, which is where he found a calling to become a professional counselor after helping multiple students through suicidal ideation as an academic advisor. A born-and-raised Houstonian, Barry enjoys journeying with clients to find alignment with their faith, education, career, family, and marriage. As a child of a Southern Baptist pastor, Barry embraces deep reflection of God’s word. He entered the Catholic Church in 2020 the same year he married his wife, who inspired him to explore Catholicism and complete R.C.I.A. through their parish, St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church.

Barry utilizes a collaborative-holistic approach to therapy that helps clients take ownership of the changes they want for themselves and their families. He focuses on clients’ strengths and affirms their God-given talents (James 1:17). He has experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, and families. Barry has supported clients through a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, anger management, career, relationships, suicidal ideation, communication, and trauma. It is not uncommon to have laughter and tears during sessions with Barry, as his uniquely positive outlook often inspires hope in clients. He especially enjoys working with men to increase their emotional intelligence and self-awareness to live more fulfilled lives in union with Jesus (John 11:35). Clients who are seeking tools and resources to improve their lives will feel comfortable and confident with Barry.

Outside of counseling, Barry enjoys reading, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, playing games with friends, and spending time with his beloved wife. Growing up, Barry always sought the answers to life’s most elusive questions within the bible. He enjoys being able to connect faith with mental health and wellness. His favorite saying is, “We can guarantee there is good in the world by being the good.”

Live life to the fullest!
