Meet Cindy…

Cindy Contreras, Parish Counselor Student Intern

Supervised by Larry Freeney, PhD(cand), LPC

Cindy is a graduate student in the University of St. Thomas’ Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Her aim is to become a licensed professional counselor specializing in trauma and abuse. She previously interned at the Fort Bend Women’s Center where she worked closely with survivors of trauma and abuse. Cindy earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Houston and has served in a variety of employed and volunteer roles at her home parish of St. Francis de Sales. She enjoys working with a diverse range of ages and cultures.

Cindy’s Catholic faith and her Latino roots are essential to who she is and have played a role in her decision to become a counselor. She wants to advocate for those who have been abused, traumatized, and marginalized- as well as to help alleviate the stigma surrounding mental health.

Cindy is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. When she’s not counseling she enjoys reading, playing with her dog Gaston, building friendships, singing karaoke, and spending weekends with family.

Cindy Contreras, Estudiante
