Meet Claudia…

Meet Claudia Flores, Practicum Student
Site Supervisor: Dr. Larry Freeney, PhD, LPC-S

Claudia Flores is a graduate student at Amberton University pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She brings a rich background in healthcare, education, family support, and faith formation, shaped by decades of professional and personal experience serving individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Claudia previously worked as a Registered Dietitian through studies at Southeast Missouri State University and Saint Louis University, where she developed a strong foundation in interdisciplinary collaboration, and compassionate client support.

For more than a decade, Claudia served families and students through Admissions, teaching, and apostolate community building at The Highlands School and Regnum Christi in Irving, Texas. These experiences cultivated in her a deep appreciation for the integral formation of the human person — intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally — through the collaborative partnership between families, schools, and faith communities. Her work accompanying international students and host families also broadened her multicultural perspective and strengthened her sensitivity to the emotional complexities of transition, belonging, and identity. Raised in Guatemala City, Claudia is fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

Claudia’s passion for counseling emerged through her own experience of personal growth and healing within the therapeutic relationship, integrated with spiritual direction and her Catholic faith. As a lifelong and deeply committed Catholic, she values the opportunity to thoughtfully incorporate Catholic spirituality into counseling. She is also pursuing additional training through the The Gottman Institute to deepen her understanding of communication, attachment, and couples counseling.

Above all, Claudia considers her vocation as a wife and mother to be her greatest joy and most meaningful calling. She brings warmth, empathy, wisdom, and a relational presence to her counseling work, with a particular passion for accompanying individuals, couples, and families navigating grief, loss, attachment wounds, life transitions, relational struggles, and the journey toward healing, restoration, and human flourishing.
