Meet Fr. Peter …
Fr. Peter Wingerter, MA, LPC Associate
Supervised by Dr. Chris Stravitsch, DMin, LMFT-S, LPC-S
Fr. Peter is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate who graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville with a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. He earned a Master of Arts in Theology from Saints Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Seminary and a Masters in Business from Trident University. His undergraduate degree is in Philosophy and Mental Health & Human Services, also from Franciscan University of Steubenville. He has a passion for helping people and helping them become the person that God created them to be.
Fr. Peter believes in a holistic approach when working with individuals and often draws on Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and the Cognitive Behavioral paradigms. He believes that in order for people to be healthy, it is important for them to live in a manner that promotes wellness in all the domains that constitute the human person: the physical, mental, and spiritual. Because of that, he is always looking to grow in his own understanding of the human person and how they can best be served in order to not just exist, but to truly live and thrive.
Prior to receiving his degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Fr. Peter served in the United States Air Force as an Air Battle Manager and as an enlisted Intelligence Analyst. He concluded his military career at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Fr. Peter belongs to one of the 23 Eastern Catholic Churches that are in full communion with the Church of Rome and he was ordained a Melkite Catholic priest on September 11, 2022. He desires to help people grow and is not afraid to walk with people in whatever challenges they may be facing in life. In fact, he considers it an honor to work with people in the most difficult situations of their life no matter what that may be.
Fr. Peter believes he has been called to a life of service to Christ, His Church, and all men in women. He is a married priest who serves at St. John Chrysostom Melkite Catholic Church in Atlanta. He sees his role as a clinical counselor as an extension of his priestly ministry and hopes that God is glorified through his efforts in this profession.
