Meet Gabriel…

Gabriel Gonzalez, Practicum Student

Site Supervisor: Dr. Jessica Barboza, PhD, LMFT-S

Gabriel Gonzalez is a graduate student at Houston Christian University, pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is supervised by Dr. Jessica Barboza, PhD, LMFT-S. He earned his undergraduate degree in Religion from Saint Leo University. He has a passion for helping people and journeying with them as they discover a path forward to restoration and resilience. Gabriel is interested in the field of mental health that incorporates spirituality to foster personal growth. He is currently being trained in psychotherapeutic approaches and techniques with a spiritual integration that is in alignment with God’s will for all of humanity.

Gabriel was raised Catholic and is actively involved in faith formation and men’s ministries at his home parish of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. He comes from the fields of engineering and construction with an understanding of the stresses that come with working in a volatile industry. Gabriel was a “prodigal son” and brings his life experiences to the counseling relationship with an empathetic heart. His life goal is to aid in the transformation of individuals and couples who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, and addiction.

When he is not studying and creating meaningful moments with his family, Gabriel is searching for silence among the trees and unpaved trails. His love of nature has taken him on hiking trips to Colorado, Big Bend National Park, Sam Houston National Forest, and many local trails. He enjoys reading about philosophy, psychology, religion, and heroic biographies.
