Meet Janelle…

Meet Janelle Miller, Practicum Student
Site Supervisor: Dr. Jessica Barboza, PhD, LMFT-S

Janelle Miller is a graduate student in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Abilene Christian University, where she is currently working toward her master’s degree. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Houston, which deepened her curiosity about people’s stories and the ways relationships shape who we become. Originally from Grenada, Janelle brings a multicultural perspective to her work and values the role that culture and lived experience play in mental health and healing.

Janelle believes that therapy works best when clients feel truly seen, heard, and respected. She approaches her work from a strengths-based, systems-focused perspective, understanding that our emotions, behaviors, and struggles do not exist in isolation but are shaped by family, culture, and life experiences. She has a special interest in supporting individuals and families navigating trauma, relationship challenges, and life transitions.

As a therapist-in-training, Janelle values authenticity, compassion, and collaboration. She strives to create a safe and welcoming space where clients can show up as they are and feel empowered to grow at their own pace. She believes healing happens through connection, curiosity, and honoring each person’s unique story.
